In Uncategorized on July 10, 2009 at 8:47 pm

1/2 stick butter
1 heaping T. plain flour
1 1/2 cup half and half milk
1 heaping Tablespoon parsley
1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
salt, pepper, Tabasco and Worchestershire to taste.

In top of doubl boiler, make a white sauce with butter, flour & cream. Add parsley cheese & seasoning.

Add 1 lb. crabmeat. Pour into casserole.. Sprinkle with cheese and bread crumbs mixed together. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 mi. or until hot & cheese is brown.

(Editor’s note: Did Grandma have a double boiler? What do you do if you don’t have one of those?)

  1. We have Gma’s handwritten recipe for Crabmeat au Gratin, which calls for “1 lb. crabmeat, 1/2 stick oleo, 1 heaping T of flour 1 1/2 c lowfat milk, 1 c gated cheese, and salt, pepper, Tabasco and Worchestershire to taste”.

  2. this recipe would taste different to me mainly because i don’t think i’ve had it.

  3. Grandma did have a double boiler… but I have made white sauce like this in a frying pan. A double boiler just keeps the pan from getting too hot. This recipe sounds wonderful… and like Grandma’s cooking.
