bobpenny honeymoon postcard written

(Editor’s note: Daddy/Bobby and Mama/Penny took two honeymoons. The first was a quick weekend to Calabash, North Carolina — the “Seafood Capital of the World” — a story they need to tell us more about in the comment section below. Their second trip was over Christmas break, so that Mama/Penny would have time off from teaching school. This is the postcard that they wrote home. It was among Grandma/Momma/Bee’s things.)

  1. We stayed at the Calabash Motel (the only motel in town), and had shrimp for lunch and supper. I don’t actually remember having shrimp for breakfast but I wouldn’t be surprised. Between meals we walked around town. At the time, sleeping and eating were the two main tourist activities in Calabash. On the drive back, we left early and stopped for breakfast at a diner. I was excited by the menu – they served brains and eggs. Mama/Aunt/Penny wasn’t so sure. She thought she may have married the wrong man. Her memories of brains for breakfast wasn’t as fond as mine.
We did go back some years later and stayed in Suite #2 (a kitchenette), and celebrated by eating a lot more shrimp.

  2. Let me just agree with Penny on the brains and eggs! That was not a regular thing served at Grandma’s table!
