Macaroni Pie

In 2-Minnie Anna (Sister) Dodd Garris 1874-1957, 3-Wilhelmina (Bee) Garris King 1918-2007, FAMILY: MATERNAL LINE (BEE) on December 16, 2009 at 8:47 am

1 Cup macaroni boiled 7 min in water as per directions.

Add to drained macaroni
1 lb American Kraft cheese cut up in small pieces.
3 eggs slightly beaten
1 quart milk.

Bake in slow oven 300-325 maybe an hour until the milk thickens. Never cook dry.

(Editor’s note: Grandma/Momma/Bee dates this recipe to 1930, when she would have been 11 or 12. She says it comes from “My childhood in Round O,” so I wonder … was it a recipe she made up on her own? Or was it her mother’s, Minnie Anna Dodd’s? Note also that this recipe made it into First Baptist Church’s “Heavenly Helpings” cookbook, where it’s said that the milk can either be “whole” or “canned,” but never “fat free.”)

  1. GM at 11 or 12 years old probably didn’t make up that recipe. There was Grandma Garris, Aunt Floy, and Aunt Jessie as other cooks in the kitchen while she was growing up (GM was the youngest). Aunt Floy was the one who taught me how to kill, pluck, and clean a chicken. But regardless, that was great mac & chac.
