(Editor’s note: Happy birthday to Granddaddy/Daddy/Bob! This was his birthday party at my parents’ house at Edgehill Road — I think for his 80th — and you can see that it involved two of his favorites. Lots of red and chocolate. I think we also gave him a red cellphone.)

  1. Yes, this was the party at Edgehill Road, but I think it was earlier than his 80th. That would have been only 4 years before he died, and he looks in better shape than he did when he was 80. We did give him a red phone, but it was actually for Grandma. He had a habit of staying out ’til all hours – usually working in the attic of the church. She worried that she couldn’t get in touch with him. So the plan was that we’d get him a phone so she could call him to remind him to come home. Of course if he remembered to take it with him (which wasn’t often), he’d leave it in the car. Because of the intended use, we got a “by-the-minute” plan. Daddy didn’t fully comprehend this, so when he did use it, he’d talk forever. The bills were huge. We worked on moving him to a bettter plan as fast as we could.

  2. Yes, I remembered on February 27th that it was Granddaddy’s birthday. I think Granddaddy’s 80th birthday party was at the Harvey Mansion downtown. It is good to remember these happy times.
