(Editor’s note: Not many men could pull off those shorts, but Uncle Billy/Bill appears to be doing it in style. Uncle Billy, where on earth are you here? Who’s the damsel by your side?

Aunt Julie/Julie, Uncle Billy’s reigning queen, has informed me that his favorite Grandma/Momma/Bee meal “was (and still is!) her strawberry pie, ham, sweet potato casserole, butter beans and rice.” )

Fresh Strawberry Pie

Bake Pie shell & let cool

Wash 1 quart fresh strawberries

Cut up 1 cup for filling & place rest in fridge with sugar

Mix 1 cup water with the cup strawberries above and add
1 cup sugar
4 tablespoon Corn starch
Add Red food coloring for color

Boil until thick & let cool. If too thick add water. If too thin add more starch dissolved in water. It will thicken some as it cools. Cool. Mix together with fresh strawberries & place in pie shell. Place in fridge for an hour or two. Top with Cool whip. Serve.

(Editor’s note: The words above come from the blue-and-white checkered recipe, not the notecards, since it gives more detail. The blue-and-white checkered card comes from a memory book called “The Keepsake Recipe Collection” that Aunt Boyd gave Grandma, to encourage her to write all her kitchen creations down.)
