In 1930s & Before, 2-Minnie Anna (Sister) Dodd Garris 1874-1957, FAMILY: MATERNAL LINE (BEE), POSTS, Round O, S.C. on March 30, 2013 at 6:00 am

(Editor’s note: We originally posted this photo here on the blog in November 2009. There’s no writing on the back, but this is Minnie Anna Dodd Garris — as Grandma/Momma/Bee would say, “My Mother at Round O.”)

  1. This is Grandma Minnie Anna as I remember her, which would make me think that this would be her in the early to mid 1950’s. She died in 1957, and in this photo, she looks pretty good for her age. There is also grass in the yard – definitely a later development. Grandma/Momma/Bee said when she was growing up, front yards had to raked grass-free. If you let grass grow, you were obviously not taking care of your yard!

  2. I have happy memories of those front steps behind Grandmomma Minnie Anna. It was amazing to me when I went by there with Tom on our honeymoon (and as an adult) how very low to the ground that porch was. My memory as a small child was that it was very high. Grandmomma ran the country store and said Bobby and I could get all the Cokes we wanted – but Momma only let us get one a day. It was a treasure and came in a glass bottle with a metal cap – cold out of the drink box.

  3. What is that pin that is going through her hat? Is that just decor, or is it holding the hat to her hair?

  4. Also, it looks here like there’s a fence around the house. Julie Anna painted a fence into her painting here: But it wasn’t around in this photograph here: Wonder when the fence came down?
