Grandpa had gone broke in business once and put the store and all business in Grandma’s name after that. It was the A.D. Dodd store which stood for Adeline Delilah Dodd. He was Joseph Hoffman Dodd.

They ran a country store that had everything Mamma had plus more. They sold fertilizer, seeds, insecticide, horse harness and everything else for animals.

  1. Well, yes and no. I know how Grandma Bee said this, but Minnie Anna’s store was first and foremost a “ladies’ fashion shop”, especially designed to display her hats and dresses, plus provide the local post office. They had some foodstuffs, but most of the display space was fashion. The Dodd store was first and foremost a farmer’s supply house – no dresses or hats, and no post office. We used to go to the Dodd store for an ice cream bar – that’s what I remember most. And we could get the ice cream bar in addition to the Johnny Cake, cheese, and Coke. Yea!
Also from what I remember, the foodstuffs they each had were more or less to supplement their primary lines, so for instance you could pick up a few groceries while you got your new plow point – or mail. I remember the Dodd store being bigger than the Garris store, but their merchandise took up more space. The front of the store was on US17A, with the long side running along Round O Road and right into their house. I thnk I remember the Dodd store not being there last time I was in Rouind O.
