They were married when they were about 17 years old. They had a quarter so they bought candy and ate that. This was Adeline Delilah Dodd and Joseph Hoffman Dodd. they had ten children, six girls and four boys but all the boys died in childhood except Keel.

Grandma had become blind when I knew her. She had a catarrh in one eye and the clothes line had hit her in the other eye and blinded her. She was always in the store working with something when I saw her. I have seen her shelling beans, peeling potatoes, snapping beans, holding babies, unraveling seams on feed bags, etc. There was a certain string to find and pull and the whole thing would unravel . She could do this very easily.

  1. Celebrating your wedding with a quarter’s worth of candy. Now that is really a simpler time.

  2. I know how to find the thread on a seed bag and pull it to unsew the seam. Momma taught me how to. 😉
