We also had many dogs, cats and sometimes as many as three dogs and a two dozen cats at one time.  Of course , we also had the cows, horses, pigs, chickens, turkeys, guineas, etc.  We raised anything on  the grounds and the poor turkey is so dumb , he will stand up in the rain and lift his bill so the water runs into his throat and drown before he will get under a shed.  If it started to rain, it was always my job to get the turkeys under the shed.  The guineas are the noisiest of all. I used to feed chickens, gather eggs, get the cows or  turn them in so they could sleep under the shed.
